Case Description
Recently, I broke my upper left central incisor. Now, there is only a small amount of tooth left below my gum line. Me dentist told me that it would be best if I got an implant. He told me that the only other option was to get a post crown. The total cost of the procedure came out to be 3200, including the crown and everything else, and with insurance, it would be 2300. Could you tell me the average cost of the post crown procedure and whether or not you think the price I was quoted is acceptable?
Thank you Jaymes Fuller

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Jaymes,The cost for replacing the tooth with an implant is reasonable. If the Root could be used to restore the tooth with a post and crown, the fee should be much less-- especially if the tooth already had a root canal treatment. It would also be much quicker to get a permanent tooth IF THIS EXISTING ROOT IS USABLE.Feel free to call my office for second opnionDr Richard Gochman

Jaymes,If you are expecting a final implant crown to look like a natural tooth, the gum tissue, bone, and temporary crown must be developed to lead to that end. This is achieved by a variety of methods which take careful planning, time and skill. The fee you were quoted is too low and therefore does not reflect the knowledge necessary to provide you with the best care. I suggest you get a second opinion with someone who can give you the information you need to make an educated decision.

Dear Patient:The quotes you have received are reasonable for the average general/family/cosmetic dental practice. The comment by the second doctor is also correct. However, if your own general dentist is expressing doubts about the viability of restoring your tooth, then you should really contact a specialist who might be able to give you a more qualified opinion, based on better skill level and knowledge. If there is no Prosthodontist (the specialist in restorative and cosmetic dentistry) in your area which your dentist can refer you to, please call me and I''''ll direct you to the proper person. Otherwise, it will be more than my pleasure to see you. Please refer to my website for info about my training and practice.Good luck and best wishes.
