Need Dentist / Specialist: No
Provide Cost Estimate: Yes
X-rays Available: Yes
Case Summary
Broken Tooth Bridge Extractions / Oral Surgery
Teeth: 18,19,20,21
Last Full Mouth X-Ray: 3/4/08
Last Cleaning: 1997
Case Description
I called the new Aspen Dental office in Rome NY when my "permanent" bridge fell out. I have Delta Dental Ins. which I have not used at all yet. They offered free 1st exam and xrays. They presented me a bill for $2859.00 (AFTER insurance) for the following: extract root tip #20, bridge (4 units) and gum treatment (scaling.) The breakdown is: $40 extraction, $1950 bridge and $1132 gum (which in itself doesn't compute.) Am I being taken for a ride? This seems extremely excessive, especially the scaling, which is going to be done in 2 sittings. Please help me as it is difficult to find the accepted cost of these procedures to compare.

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Cost Estimate: $$7500+
That is extraordinarily inexpensive. By the way, you haven''''t had a cleaning in over 10 years? Dental insurance itself is a scam, as it pays for almost nothing. And Delta is NOT even an insurance company. Your employer is self-insuring and uses a third party to administrate it.. You are lucky to have any teeth left. Try $400 per extraction, scaling $300 per quadrant and $6000 for a 4-unit bridge, minimally. I would not be surprised if you need much more work than that. This is not to be construed as a recommendation in any way since I don''''t have a complete history and I have not had the opportunity to examine you and your xrays personally.

Based on the fees for the extraction and bridge that they quoted you, the cost for Perio scalings seems excessive--

I''''''''m not sure I get the math though.

You claim that YOUR OUT OF POCKET cost will be $2859---The fees you stated add up to $4031-- What is your annual maximum? If it is $1200, this might work.

It is not so much the total cost--( In my office the treatment would total $175 extraction, $3400 bridge, $800 for scaling 4 quadrants.)

Good Luck

if you cannot trust this dentist find a new one, it appears to me the doubt does not lie in the validity of the fees you are faced with, but the releavance of the treatment.

accept the fact you have dental problems, once you accept reality, it will be easier to accept responsiblity for the fees involved and then, and only then, will you be able to give yourself the care you deserve, only the best.

i know that sounds harse yet that''''s the truth in matters like this.

if you had a brain tumor would you you shop for cheapest person to help you.?

hope you do well, dr c
