Need Dentist / Specialist: Yes
Provide Cost Estimate: No
X-rays Available: Yes
Case Summary
Bridge
Teeth: 9
Case Description
I cracked my tooth at the root about 5 yeras ago. The tooth remained in place however the bone has resorbed considerably due to a continuous infection. The bone above the adjacent teeth are unaffected. If I want to get a Maryland bridge, do I have to allow the bone above the placement tooth some healing time, or can the brdge be installed immediately? It has been recommended that I get a flipper tooth for 6 mths to allow the bone to regenerate itself. I'm wondering if this is necesaary or the dentist is just trying to increase the costs of the procedure.

Thanks

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Every case is different. A thorough examination is necessary before trying to determine what your options are, and the anticipated outcome. What tooth is it? what is your bite like? The expected forces on the teeth? The bone quality? Your age and health? Other options? How large of a space? The other teeth as far as shape, quality, health?

Hi,

I got your request from Dr Oogle. If your tooth is still present, it MUST be extracted BEFORE you can take an impression for the maryland bridge. So if you dont want to walk around for a couple of weeks with a missing tooth, you would need a flipper anyway! It is best to let that extraction area heal first before ANY permanent replacement, so the false tooth will correctly adapt to the empy space.

A maryland bridge is only 1 of the replacement options available to you. I hope other choices have been discussed.

If you would like a second opinion, I offer FREE consultations for all Dr Oogle patients.

Call us if you want to set up an appointment.

Dear Patient,

If your tooth has been broken off for five years, most likely it is too late to save it and needs to be taken out. For the replacement of one missing tooth you have a few options, Maryland bridge would be my last choice because they tend to fail. Feel free to call my office an Monday to set up a free consultation, when I can examine your condition and give you some options.

Dear patient:

Your dentist is right. you should wait some time before the fabrication of any restoration. The body does need some time to heal and remodel after surgery. However, even for a Maryland Bridge, which is an entry-level restoration, soft and hard tissue augmentations are necessary, especially if you''''ve lost the tooth due to long standing infections.I do need some more details about your case in order to provide you with more information. Would love to talk source more . Bast wishes,

a mayland bridge will fail and is the last option you should consider. Many times an implant is a better chioce if the teeth on either side of the space ( tooth to be extracted) are healthy.

We can place the implant the same day as the extrcation in many cases and place a tooth over it. thereby not requiring a flipper which is removable.

If you would like to explore this and other options call our offce for a consulataion. The consult is free , there is a fee for the x-ray if needed.
