Case Description
I have had braces for two years. I took them out two years ago. I am, however, unhappy with my overbite. I have been to two consultations.

At one, I was told I had a 50% mild overbite and that it could be corrected by Invisalign. (they only do Invisalign) They quoted me $3000. no teeth extractions

I went to another consultation and was told treatment would not do much for me, and that they would not recommend it because it would be very expensive (24 months) for very little difference. + teeth extractions. The orthodontist also told me that Invisalign would NOT help me at all. I had done some research before and found that they are not as effective as the regular metal dental braces.

My main concern for my teeth, is the protruding upper jaw. They said it's only mild, but I am unhappy with it because when I smile, my upper lip just slides behind the upper jaw, (I don't know how to explain it exactly) and it looks like a gummy smile.

I also have what I believe is called maxilary midline deviation to the left, and sometimes when I chew my left jaw makes some cracking noises.

Another thing, are braces/ Invisalign the only options for correcting mild overbites? What about the functional appliances and headgears? Or can't protruding upper jaws also be fixed by just widening the upper jaw?

Are there any orthodontists in the NYC area that offer free consultations, or even in Long Island? I am very confused as to what to do. I would appreciate any help/advise.

Thank You

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Dear Confused:

Please concentrate on the real problem. You are unhappy with your smile and you are trying to correct a situation which most will not.

Don''''t look for a free consultation (ever got anything for free that was worth while???)

If you call my office, I will gladly refer you to the best orthodontists in the city for a proper consultation.

Good luck,

Hello,

Thank you for your valuable enquiry, I would be glad to assist. My practice is conveniently located next to the express train stop on 87th & Lexington Avenue in Manhattan. I specialize in adults - over 50% of my patients are over the age of 25. Being a faculty lecturer at Mount Sinai Hospital, I run a practice with the very latest in techniques and procedures and have hundreds of successful Invisalign cases. (Invisible braces)

From the description of the problem you gave me you would greatly benefit from receiving orthodontic treatment. Without seeing you ourselves it is hard to know for sure, but it sounds like you would need braces rather than Invisalign. Invisalign is limited on its ability to move teeth and for complete correction of the overbite braces are usually the best solution. The braces we use can be clear that match your teeth and not metal. Things like Head Gear only work on kids that are growing and they need to be attached to the braces, so you would need them anyway.

We are offering free consultations in the month of August.

Feel free to contact me directly at drvaysman@ueso.org or 212-360-0835

Looking forward to meeting you.

Regards

Dr. Tanya Vaysman

Hi, I am sorry you have had such a confusing experience. You are unhappy with your smile and that needs to be corrected. I offer complimentary consultations b/c I want you to be educated and happy with the decision you make. Orthodontic treatment does not take one visit, it takes a few and I want my patients to be happy in knowing that they are confident in their decision to start treatment. I have treated many adults and would be happy to show you pictures and explain in detail to you the pros and cons of all your options. I am board certified and all treatment is done by me, not an assistant. I also provide a wide variety of options such as clear ceramic braces, invisalign, and lingual braces (braces behind the teeth). I hope to help you in achieving your perfect smile.

Good Morning,

It sounds as though you are being overloaded with clinical information and it is a tough situation to be in as a patient. If you have a copy of your Panorex ( a clear, concise copy) and any intra-oral radiographs, a copy of your current treatments plans from the last two practitioners you met with and a few pictures of what you would like to look like- we can sit sown and discuss the possibility of treatment for you. Write down all of your questions, words that may have been unfamiliar to you, concepts or treatments that you didnt understand.

Let me manager know you spoke to me online here at DrOOGLE.com

Looking forward, to speaking with you soon.

Hi,

Well, it sounds like there may be more than 1 option to address your concerns.

First, the fact that you had braces for 2 yrs, and you still have an overbite, suggests that MAYBE there should have been extractions.

Second, you are unhappy because of a "gummy smile". Often times that can''''''''t be corrected by braces/ invisalign alone. There are certain measurements that need to be taken to evaluate your TOOTH size, and the thickness of the gums themselves. Sometimes a procedure to modify the -gums will make your teeth look longer and show less gum.

Anyway all of this would need to be reviewed with a clinical evaluation.

If you are interested you can call us for a FREE consult.

We ARE NOT orthodontists, we are certified invisalign providers, AND we do cosmetic makeovers ALL the time.
